What a sad question.
Living out the truth and the love of Jesus is something every Christian is invited and empowered to do.
Perhaps more than anyone else, I recognize how imperfectly I personally do this.
But growth and progress can be realized. Their pursuit, however, must be anchored in humility.
Such a foundation makes “like Jesus” possible.
With its absence comes a warning.
“As Jesus” is idolatry.
There is no justification for the latter.
None.
Not for the action or the offender. President, pastor, or anyone.
None of us.
Either the bedrock of our faith means everything, or it means nothing.
The central figure of the Christian faith has earned exclusivity.
Any attempt to hijack primacy, an ancient temptation, is immoral, indefensible, and impossible.
There is a moral truth that far exceeds the fantastically temporal but consequential power that flows from a desk, microphone, or keyboard.
And that moral truth for a Christian is based on the idea of a singular God.
And we are not him.
